I have heard that a male betta will start making a bubble nest if he has a female betta on the other side of a divider that he can see, but why is he building his nest in his little 2.5 gallon?
I have never had a female and he has never seen one in my house, so why build the nest? It doesn't really bother me, I'm just kinda wondering.

Fish don't have a short memory span, thier memory is better than ours. He is anticipating a female to magically come along. It's norml, he will stop doing this in a few weeks when he realizes no one is coming... :0)

They will just build them when they are healthy ,some of my male bettas build bubble nest all the time and they have never seen any of my females because the females are in a different part of the house but they build them anyway.I destroy them when I do a water change and the next day they are back again.

Consider this from the perspective of your betta. In the wild, they have to rely on chance encounters with females that are ready to lay eggs to spawn (females not prepared to lay eggs will retreat on encountering a male). But if the eggs aren't picked up and placed into the bubblenest following fertilization, they won't develop properly.

Since the male expends a lot of energy in the care of the fry and guarding the bubblenest, it's in the best interest of continuing the species if the bubble nest is prepared ahead of time so it's ready (should a female be willing to mate on a moment's notice). Making the nest doesn't require that much of his energy, and he can build it while eating and guarding his territory. If he waited until he met the female, it may be too late to build a reasonable sized nest by the time she laid her eggs.

So he's just trying to "be prepared" in a manner of speaking.

some men make bubble next each and every of the time, like on a regular basis,he ought to kill the ladies individuals so until eventually you get a sturdy betta e book on breeding then do no longer hardship, i think of breeding bettas want a 10 gallon and you may desire to do away with the ladies individuals whilst they have layed there eggs in his bubble nest and the babies (fry) are fairly no longer simple to maintain alive you may desire to offer them an area to maintain from being sucked into the clear out. the coolest fish to reproduce are fancy guppies they are talked approximately as stay bearers they arrive in colours purely approximately as suitable as bettas and the greater youthful are born alive and swimming no messy eggs the dad and mom ususally do no longer consume them so which you have a tank complete good away, comparable is going for mollies and platties

Since male bettas are the primary care provider they are just showing nesting tendencies like females in other animals. If you can you should provide him with a suitable female He's ready.
