Nope, I don't like it one bit. I don't spend *one red cent* of my money there, and don't plan on doing that, ever. It's that simple.
Note to Soccer Mom (previous page): That doesn't tell the whole truth, that employees of Wal-Mart have filed *three* separate class-action lawsuits against the place, that Wal-Mart generally does *not* offer alternatives to the Chinese-made crap at the price, and Wal-Mart really does stand alone in terms of the single-minded *ruthlessness* with which employees are not allowed to *ever* work full time, get promoted, get off of welfare or become self-sufficient.
Simply put. For most of the 1990s, Wal-Mart was the 2nd or 3rd richest corporate entity in Business Week's ratings, right after places like Microsoft, for several *years* running. It did not get that way by being a good neighbor, having good customer service, or by treating its workers fairly at all.
It got that way by being the *Worst Offender* of the bunch. How many class-action lawsuits have employees brought against Meijer, or Target, or Kmart (pre-bankruptcy)? Did they ever have to deal with three *at once*?
And this doesn't even touch Wal-Mart's *contempt* for the American Value of Freedom of Speech. Much of what passes for "music" on the radio or MTV isn't a "radio" or an "MTV" edit anymore, it's a *Wal-Mart* edit. Since *when* is Wal-Mart a sovereign state, since when does *it* have rights to censor things *far above and beyond* what the FCC requires?
Oh, that's right, it doesn't, but in much of America, it's the *only* store in town, and so music has to sell at Wal-Mart to sell anywhere, meaning *they* get to censor away. It's a de facto monopoly power by way of sheer size running local competitors out of small towns.
So yeah....I don't spend one red cent there. Won't do it. I'll die first. It's a *principle* thing now....on a par with my *not giving money* to drunks because I don't wish to be a *part of* their alcohol problem. I don't give money to Wal-Mart because I don't want to be a *part of* the censorship problem, or the problems of all of their *Suing* workers. It's like my not spending money on a car, or for gasoline, because I don't want to be a part of the Big Oil problem either (and a good local Mass Transit system lets me get away with it).
I may be poor as dirt. My computer and internet access may be donated. But. I still have veto power, I can still say NO with what pathetic little pittance I have left.
You do too. ^_^ Use it.

People wonder why local mom and pop stores are going out of business. Well, it has to do with Wal-Mart! I try to shop at other stores if I can. I would rather pay a little bit more and save some of the local stores from closing.

No. It bullied it's way into 2 small towns around where I lived and forced the mom and pop stores out of business. Both cities even asked it be put on the ballot so the townspeople could vote against Wal Mart coming here. But they ended up bribing the counsel people by donating lots of money to local schools and property, so they bought their way in. I won't shop there.

Yeah, you can't beat there prices for Dog/Cat foods, and baby formula and diapers.... Medicines and shampoos are priced well too. Don't go there for clothing or shoes though...The stuff you get is too cheap. Wal-Mart has its good points and bad.. The worst thing about them is that they have 20 check out lanes, but always have just 2 open, with lines of 10 people or more sometimes!!!.... That drives me CRAZY!......

Wal Mart doesnt do anything that any of the other similar department stores do. Kmart, Sears, Target, all the rest - they get their products from places like China, they only hire their employees in part time, they all are anti-union and they dont pay their employees insurance just as with Wal Mart. So before you bash Wal Mart take that into account.

I like any place that has the specific sale I want at that time. If Walmart has a great deal - then I like Walmart that day.
In general they have a decent selection of everything, so I can shop there casually if I feel the need.
