Dallas was the first US soap to be shown on UK TV, it ran from 1978 to 1990. I Love Lucy was not classed as a soap, Dallas was the first.
The first UK soap was Coronation Street which started in 1960 and is still showing four times a week now.

I remember I love Lucy and Sgt Bilko and Mr. ED, and many more but these were not soaps as we know them ,they were more light hearted comedies with complete episodes.

Dallas was the first real soap where you had a whole series to watch that followed on, still I am not 100% sure....
