It's always the fourth Thursday in November.
As a convenience, I've looked that up the date for the next several years:
2007: Thu, Nov 22
2008: Thu, Nov 27
2009: Thu, Nov 26
2010: Thu, Nov 25
2011: Thu, Nov 24
2012: Thu, Nov 22
Incidentally, President Franklin Roosevelt tried to change the date of Thanksgiving to the third Thursday in November, in part to extend the holiday shopping season by one week and give a boost to the economy during the Great Depression. There was huge public protest. Some referrred to the newly positioned Thanksgiving Day as "Franksgiving." Roosevelt's decision was quickly politicized, with some people in some states celebrating the holiday as the "Republican Thanksgiving" on the fourth Thursday in 1939, and others celebrating the "Democratic Thanksgiving" on the third Thursday.

I guess it because maybe somehow the descendants of the Indians remebered that the first meal with the Pilgrims was on a Thursday, but wasn't able to recall what day exactly......
Wait wait...I have a magazine that has the answer! Here: " In 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt signed a bill that officially made it the last Thursday of November Thanksgiving Day."
That reminds me, my friend cracked me up by saying:
"Thanksgiving is such a great holiday. We shared a meal with the indians and became friends. Years later, we betrayed them, took their land, forced them to move (killing most of them in the process) and then said they had to become americans."
Well, Happy Thanksgiving!

Could have been Teddy roosevelt that did that...or was it FDR let me check and get back cause now I am curious.
Ok I checked..
First Lincoln said it should be held on the last Thursday in November
Then FDR ( I feel proud enough for knowing that one) Made it a week earlier to help businesses by lengthening the shopping period before Christmas (probably because of the depression.

because Thanksgiving is always celebrated on a Thursday and the separation between holidays MUST give AT least 4 weeks between T-day and X-mas Day...
Having in on the 29th this year would have only given 26 days betwen T-day and X-mas...

What's the difference?
Christmas wasn't ACTUALLY in December, anyway--early pseudo-Christians used a pagan holiday that already existed. Christ was most likely born in October, when shepherds were still with their flocks.
