Nah, I'll keep it terse. Go ahead and pound it into my thick little skull. We were together 5 years, lived together most of it. He had to take care of me. Now I am more able and have a place and job. He says he'll be around and will help financially as long as I need it. He says he loves me 'but...' Now he is moving on with his life. He says he just wants to be alone. If we 'go our separate ways,' will he want me again someday?

He used you, and he will not be back. You gave him the milk for free, and he doesn't need to buy the cow.
I don't mean to make you think that I am comparing you to an animal, it is just a phrase.
You gave him things without being married, and he had a way to control you with the situation in the relationship the way it was. When you was able to get on your feet better he felt threatened, and he didn't want to be around it anymore.

no one can answer that for you. but i can say that if he loves you he will stay there comes a time when we all need to sit down and breath and think about life and see where we want to go or what we want to do.yes sometimes we can go throught a time where we may seem confused on what we want but what we want will always be there sometimes we get bother by things and shut down and it may not have anything to do with what we say and untill we can admit to our faults then theres just gonna be a dark empty room that we hide and in doing so close out the ppl we love the most.so ya never know he may have something bothering him that he needs to sort out i would give him some time.

you are taking care of yourself.. now do your self a huge favor and move on from this loser. if he wants to be alone... then let him be alone. even if he does want you someday, that's his tough luck. move on with your life and leave him (its what he wants remember) ALONE you deserve better than some wishy washy male who calls his self a man. Sounds to me like he stuck around to make sure you were ok after taking care of you, which is commendable, but doesn't make a partner..He is ready to move on.
