Its not actually "legal" now.
There arent alot of laws that mention specifically online or offline. Basically most things are illegal or legal in both. So name calling online falls under the same laws as they do in the real world.

If someone can show that a person has slandered their good name, then they can demand that users information from the online site by legal means. And they can sue the person for damages.

Everything has its pros and cons. It is abit harder to find out who you would sue. But on the other hand, the damages go thru the roof since its not just "a few people in ear shot" or "the thousands of people who read their newspaper". Damages online are worldwide.
