Well, you have to take SOME sort of classes or training. Just wanting to be an actor is insufficient -- you need to develop your skills.

And you're right -- you don't have to go to an actual acting school. I dropped out of college after one semester because my professors were jaded jerks, so I got all my training from private teachers. When cast in shows, I always observed the more experienced actors and learned from them, and when attending major theatre productions I would study what the actors did -- how they moved, how they stood, what their line readings were like, how they found their light, and even how they bowed at curtain calls.

My unorthodox course of study must have worked, because I've been able to be a part of some outstanding theatre projects. [I'm proof that you can get hired in New York without having a college degree.]

No, had you been born to a producer or if you were already a rap star, you would be already well on the road. Major athlete - that will also get you there. Ordinary person? Join the masses, my friend. Acting school is one of the things casting folks look for because it shows you have some discipline and some education in your art. Acting is harder than it looks. You could get an agent and get some commercials if they like your look and you have some natural ability, but everyone thinks they do, so agents are busy and their cut is large on any income you get. You should also try to get acting parts in community theaters and such just to work on your skills and maybe pick up some decent reviews that will get you into a casting call.

My sister also wanted to become an actress. I can't deny, she's not bad. But my mom isn't convinced. As a matter of fact, she really isn't convinced with anything other than something that'll definetly support you when you grow up.
What can I say? Maybe you can discuss it with other friends. Maybe you can start a project. I think a good way of becoming a young actor, writer, or young whatever is slowly getting known. If you got what it takes, you'll be recognized.
This is the only thing I can come up with. I better check this blog, see what other people say.
Good Luck.

I want to be an actress too! and I think:

If your serious about acting you might just want to build up your resume and try to get a agent through talent agencies near you. For a headshot its like $250+. Hope that Helped and good luck with your acting career!!

Join Star-Search contests. Its really the fastest way I can think of, unless you are related to anyone who is in show business. Plus, joining such contests don't really assure you the best career, only a few who join last for a long time. So I guess you have to be super talented.

Try and get into lots of plays or musicals if your still at school, join drama classes. if not try and study drama at college or university, it then opens your options up from there.
