The real definition of nothing is something of no significance. So if you buy some useless crap yea I guess you could say that your buying nothing.

the only possible way to buy nothing would be if you kept the money in your wallet, because by giving money and getting 'nothing' in return you are not purchasing nothing, you are either being robbed, giving charity or lending cash,

To buy something means to aquire something in return. If I give you money for "nothing" the definiton of buy does not fit.

Sure you can. If you pay for something that you never receive, and you never get reimbursed, you have "bought" nothing. Although it was not your intention to buy nothing, that is what happened.
