Back in the days before thanksgiving football was popular, the NFL league asked which team wanted to play on thanksgiving only Detroit and Dallas choose to play. It became tradition ever since.

Because in the 20s Detroit thought of the idea to play, since most people in the 20s worked on Saturday and Sunday, it would be a great day for everyoen to play football. Since they came up with this idea, they play on this day every year. We were just talknig about this today. It was also on the discovery channel a few days ago :)

It was begun by the owner of the Detroit Lions in 1934. It was a complete sellout. The only time they have not played on TDay was WWII from I think it was 1941-45.
Don't know when Dallas began. I do know it was to ad a game from the original AFL(American Football League) before they merged with the NFL.

Its a NFL tradition. If the Cowboys and Lions didn't play on Thanksgiving it would be like Thanksgiving with no turkey to eat!

Look, we have very little to look forward to here in Detroit. I mean, look at us. Have some mercy.
