My husband has been in Iraq for two years. I spent last Thanksgiving and this Thanksgiving without him. I also spent last Christmas without him and will do the same this year.
Yes, I'm very depressed, sad and lonely. I could have cried all day.
People with families don't understand how we feel. But if their families weren't around on holidays, life would be sad for them too.
I would never allow myself to become this way, but some people turn their sadness into anger - thus I understand how some people can get "Scrooge" syndrome. It's probably easier for them to push the world away, rather than feel the pain and hurt of aloneness during the holidays.
Lily R - Why don't you get a life?! You obviously could somehow relate to this question or you wouldn't have taken the time to open it, read the answers and reply in your own idiotic way.
AND/OR - I've noticed you answer many questions with simpleton ignorance. So, if you're just tryin to get Yahoo points, you're the one that needs a damn life, you f'in moron!!!!

I imagine lots of people have their own reasons for being depressed on any certain holiday. I'm very sorry for that. But, I believe its what you make of it.If the choice is yours to be alone, then, don't set there feeling bad all day. Make something of the day. Go to the mall, have friends over for dinner, visit family. If you don't have the choice whether or not to be alone, then, maybe you could volunteer someplace that has the Holiday meals for the homeless, or the elderly, or some churches have activities. The day is what you make of it.

I am alone and I'm just fine with that. In fact I've been alone the past 3 years - send the wife, kids, and dogs down to the in-laws out of state.
As for depression a combination of Wellbutrin and Effexxor XR has kept that at bay for the past couple of years.

no i wasn't. i guess i've gone thru enuf holidays that every single one doesn't have to be filled with people. and i've lived out of the country and spent many many holidays alone. either treat it like any other day, or do something special for yourself, and move on.
