ok heres the thing. I absolutely love NYU and all that new york
has to offer. NYU is my dream school and i seriously want to go there but my parents dont want me to move far away from home especially since i live in cali and i dont have realatives that live there anymore (my cousin lived in Manhattan but later moved to San Fran.) So basically i'll be alone, i think thats what scares my parents the most and not to mention that NYU
is expensive. Both schools are really hard to get in but Ive lived in Cali all my life and i love it but I'll never be young again
and i think it would be soo cool to live in another state especially NY. I would love to go to NYU
What should I do?

When it comes down to it, it's really your choice.

But consider this:

Are you open to meeting new people? Can you afford NYU? Will you be going to grad school?

Since you live in Cali, UC shouldn't be too expensive for you. And you can get a great education there. If you plan on going to grad school, I would suggest going to UC for undergrad and NYU for grad. NYU is a very reputable grad school. Right now, it might be hard for you to move to an area where you don't have anyone nearby. You're probably still dependent on your parents now, and it might be hard to be suddenly thrown into a situation where you have to be mostly self-sufficient. If you're going to grad school, I would suggest UC for undergrad so you can save money, and then NYU for grad, where you might be old enough to feel comfortable with living far from your family. If you're not going to grad, you can always transfer after 2 yrs into NYU.

You are never alone in NYC.

If you are good enough to get into NYU or a UC school -- then you can't go wrong from an academic point of view.

I loved living in NYC and hated living in Berkeley -- but you really need to decide for yourself. Since it sounds like your parents are no longer in California, I don't see the difference in price, since you would attend as a non-resident.

Apply to both & see what happens

NYU would be great, but you realize it would cost you/your parents about $60,000 a year for tuition and books/fees, plus living expenses.

How about a compromise? Transfer to NYU as a junior but start at a UC.

In the end, it's what you want to do with YOUR life. So I say go for it...

Applying to the school won't hurt in anyyyy way. So go ahead and apply, and IF and WHEN you get in, then worry about it..you'll have plenty of time to make that decision. At least you won't have any regrets later knowing that you didn't even try. Until then, study hard and talk to your parents!

Oh, and make sure you do apply to other good schools in California and other places as well.

I attended NYU for graduate school. For me, it was the worst mistake I could have made! You do not get the education you pay for-instead you are literally paying for the name value on your degree.
