To be fair theres not many people who can actually call themselves pure bred English actually living in England any more.
The English race has had to defend itself from its European neighbours for the last 1000 years, and for such a small nation it did well to secure an empire that became the biggest this world has ever seen, It bred the dawn of the agricultural and industrial revolution, created a language that has become universal, and has been the birthplace for some of the finest humanbeings this planet has ever seen. Aye, maybe they are a little arrogant, but crikey wouldn't you be if your country had done half of that?
As for me i'm but a poor N.Irishman, who also canne believe his team got dumped out.....Now that would have been good to see, England out and N.Ireland going to Euro 2008! =0P

I'd rather that the English were arrogant than the apathetic, cowed bunch we have become!
As for football, all very boring but at least in 1966 we had some decent players!

Your right that England should feel they could win as in reality none of the side they played are good enough to get in the England squad. If Gerrard was for sale he would cost more than there team so what does that say about the man in charge. I like Shearer when he talks he makes sense and he can read the game

Not everybody. That was par for the course. When the heat is on they are always exposed as second raters. No trophys in the last 41 years.
If it wasn't for foreign players and managers our clubs would never win any trophies either

What annoys me is the fact that they sacked the manager and assitant manager.. Why not sort out the players? They get payed far too much for what they do and they're not fully committed..
1966 was a fluke, I agree. I'm sick of hearing them bang on about that too.. My boyfriend's English and I'm sooooooo glad he's one of the few who think it's embarrassing that they keep banging on about that.

the only reason england won the game in 1966 as the germans got bored hearing about the 2nd world war.

there all just a bunch of big headed overpaid players, maybe if they actually had to work for there money the team would do better sacking the manager ok he not the best but he does have to out up with the injurys that the players pick up from there club teams and the team does not get together as much as they do with there club teams but still i think if they didnt get paid as much and had to actually work for it we would get further

What is with people coming on here and generalising about certain races. The English people are not one big organism with one consciousness, we are individual people, some arrogant some are not.
I'm an English person I do not believe we are best at everyting. Like every country we a good at some things and not good at others but why insult every English person over a game?
