I would expect the X2 6000+ to have just a slight edge. However, E4500 has HALF the power consumption of the X2 6000+, thus more efficient.
BUT Core2 Duo usually has great overclocking headroom. E4500 would easily beat the X2 6000+ when both are overclocked.

I was debating the same as you. I was looking at AMD because of the price vs performance...but then I know Intel Core 2 Duo rule the performance benchmarks. If money is the limiting factor then go with AMD 6000. That cpu benchmarks the same as the 6600 C2D.
One thing I noticed was the the intel runs so much cooler. I went from 35-45 C to 20-30C in temps. My room is not too big and I could feel the heat diff.
