Make sure the speakers aren't muted - click on your task bar the speaker could be in the inactive icons (hidden icons) if it's muted you'll see a red circle or something around it - if so click on the speaker and un mute it.

Any changes? Upgrades? If speakers are involved, check them first on another computer. Her sound card may be broken, or maybe an automatic upgrade replaced her sound driver.
Is she running Vista?
