Might need a new drive or to clean the current drive - whenever I've had the problem I just bought a new dvd burner.

Are you certain that the drive is a burner, and not just a CD-Rom (which can only read, not burn, CDs)? Normally right by where the tray opens it will display a CD-ROM, a CD-R or a CD-RW symbol.

Are you using the correct type of blank CDs? Some can only use CD-R, while others can use both CD-R and CD-RW. Again, use the symbol by the tray to determine which you need.

A CD drive can use read or write DVDs.
