"But now things have changed. We have economic freedom, social freedom, literary freedom, internet freedom, even press freedom has improved quickly. The conditions for freedom in China have improved."

Once he burned books as a communist guard, but now he is one of China's most celebrated literary stars.

After visiting China three times prior and living here for 2 years, what I have found, that what we think in the west about China is wildly exaggerated, taken out of context, assumed from the past, or lies.

For other China questions, look through my postings about China via my profile. I have a lot to say about China bashing and where China is going in the future, and how my home country, the USA, can learn from China and what we are doing wrong.

Chuck, you suffer from instant gratification. Yes the internet is censored in China, yes it is wrong, yet you do not give credit for china going from total censorship to 90% openness in the span of less then 20 years.

China is very smart not to change overnight. We've seen what instant change can do to societies in our two wars, where one country is in a civil war and the other country is run by warlords outside the capital.

China is little of what you think she is and much of what you want her to be.

My biggest defense of China is not China's words or mine, but rather come here for a visit.

Chi Guy,

I am sure, going to an ultra hate site, that I can find links that say the USA is eating aborted fetuses.

Do you believe everything you read on the net from any source whatsoever, as long as it fits your thinking?

That is not using the ole noggin.

Thank God for freedom of speech and not to mention internet service that is not censored.

God Bless America.

My father was a POW in North Korea and tortured by the Chinese interrogators. Don't judge me, you are biased as well!

Unlike Japan and Germany in the 30's, China today is emerging peacefully b/c today's world is a very different place where nations no longer compete on the battlefield, but in the market place instead. Economically, China is becoming a part of the world and that is the driving force behind of what you just said. Economic globalization, based on the technological achievements of the mankind in the past a few decades, has given birth to peace and prosperity, and more freedom in China in the future.

This will be the century of China. It will overcome communism and become even more democratic as more time passes.

If I were in my 30's or younger I would learn either Mandarin or Cantonese.

The people are as good as any in the world; it is almost always the politicians we cannot trust.

I can't think of one country where the people are satisfied with heir politicians.
I spoke recently with a lady from Poland; she asks everyone she meets, "did you vote for our President?"

Not one person she asked said they voted for the guy.

I have a link showing Chinese restaurants that serve aborted humans on their menus. There is nothing good to be said about their form of governance other than it is their right to live as they choose.

I do not knock a nation's choice of governance. It is the right of all nations to decide their own destinies.
