mom. I think that people whom say mum must be from some other country other than America. But I guess they see sense in saying that.

I always say "mom." It first started from "mommy," so that became "mom." It would be quite awkward if I said "mum" because people would think that came from "mummy."
But when I am referring to her or conversing about her, I like to say, "My mother" to formally show that I respect her.

I grew up saying "Mom", but I think "mum" sounds really cool, too.
