Because he isn't who the media has determined to be important. We must change their minds!

Because he is outside the Two-Party machine, he is not as well-known or especially interesting (controversial), not well-funded, and has almost no chance of winning. And - cynically speaking - he's just not a candidate that the media or political elite even care about or want to put out there for us to consider.
That said, it doesn't mean he isn't the best candidate or that he couldn't be a plausible VP running mate if he were to swing to the left or right. But then, he wouldn't be Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is not the best candidate. He is running the same campaign on the same radical and ill thought out issues, with the same vague policy objectives with no substance that attracted 0.5% of the vote in 1988.
He gets a great deal more press than an also ran like him warrants.

The big three in the question seem to be getting more press because of the stones they are now throwing at each other rather than their stance on the issues at hand. The one you say is the best candidate spewed his foolishness early on in the campaign and buried himself. He's old news.

He's seen as a loose cannon by older generations, and older generations greatly out number the younger voters.
Vote Huckabee, he has similar views but more support behind him. Most importantly, he wants to get rid of the IRS through FairTax!

Perhaps the fact is that he isn't "clearly the best candidate" to anyone but a small group of fanatic supporters....

he's not as well known. and he does not have many supporters across the country (as compared to hillary, obama, rudy, etc.)
the media tends to focus on the biggest, most supported candidates.
and "best" is an opinion. your definition of best will not be shared by many other people. and so the media cannot use that as its standard for who to focus on.
