The inital 2 is out of the sqrt, and we know that 2 is the sqrt of 4. That means we can simplify it to sqrt(y/2*4). This therfore becomes sqrt(2y)

You multiply it by 2 then divide it by 2. The value is the same. You just restated it.

2(y/2)^1/2 = 2^(1 -- 1/2)*y^(1/2) = 2^(1/2)*y^(1/2) = sqrt2y
