they think we are stupid and don't know what the truth is

They feel they need to protect us from the truth. They are afraid of widespread panic. People would go into a frenzy, over what they believe "aliens" are capable of. Too much negativity regarding there "arrival" to earth if there was ever going to be one. The Government hasn't a clue of how to deal with an "alien" or what they may be capable of. They do not want the worlds people seeing how inadequate and obsolete our defenses and ability's are,compared to other world's, so they figure what we don't know can't hurt us !

Because wacko-theorists are a big part of the economy (books, magazine, etc.) They would be out of a job if that stuff was declassified and the entire US economy would colapse. That's really the only reason.

They probably don't want to cause mass hysteria.........like what happened in 1938 when Orson Wells did the radio broadcast of "War of the Worlds." It was a fictional story being told on the radio, but most people didn't know and thought it was real.......causing a mass hysteria.
