I have read them both and loved them both. They are simply wonderful. The Kite Runner actually had me crying real tears. A Thousand Splendid Suns made me sick to the stomach. Both are so emotional and moving. Personally I read The Kite Runner first. I think it's better to start with the writer's first novel to see how he progresses with his second work. The first is about a father / son relationship, and the second about a mother / daughter relationship. Both take place against the backdrop of Afghanistan and the historical and political events that unfold there. They are both a must read.

I would first read the Kite Runner. Because it is Hosseini's first novel, it gives you a background of what kind of writer he is. Both books are fantastic, and in the long run, it does not matter which you read first.

Well I guess since I read Kite Runner first I would say that although I don't think it matters. They are both splendid books.

I LOVED '.....Splendid Suns'. I really liked 'The Kite Runner', but found the second half to be predictable.
'A Thousand....' gets my vote.

I would say A Thousand Splendid Suns because it sounds more interesting. But I know that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. And I must say I LOVE to read!
