Gateway one is better, it has 2 gig RAM rather the 1 gig and also comes with a graphics card while the other one is a Intergrated one which isnt that good. But i would have to say that the AMD chips do heat up pretty quickly in my experience while the intel tend to stay cool for a long time.

What are you going to use the laptop for?

[EDIT]Yeh i would still go for the Gateway alot more RAM, the processor is better than the other more speed, plus the graphics card is there if you decide to play games on it sometime.

Gateway is the same price as the other one and it is alot better so best get a good price for a better computer.

I'm NOT a SONY fan, but at that price, I'd grab the Vaio even if memory is smaller. Why?
1. It has Core 2 Duo on the latest Santa Rosa platform.
2. Bigger display
3. X3100 is one of the best integrated graphics architecture; 8 pixel and 1 vertex shaders plus hardware T&L.
3. ddr2 RAM is so cheap nowadays, easy to upgrade.
