Be careful what you remove.

I gave up on using msconfig for that. Every time I do and restart, the system gives me a message that basically says "Hey, Dummy! You turned off something that wants to run. I'm going to start in Safe Mode to give you a chance to fix it."

Go to http://www.ccleaner.com and get the latest version of CCleaner. That has a function that allows you to remove items from the start-up list without being called names by your computer. It will also get rid of cookies and a lot of other unnecessary files and can be used to clean outdated registry entries.

click the start menu and then "run" in the run box type msconfig, then in the window that comes up choose the startup tab

hope this helps
