Begin your search at WikiPedia. There is a fairly good and unbiased article at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrology#Astrology_and_science . The site should have links to other worthwhile sites of interests.

The nay-sayers here are generally correct in asserting the lack of scietific support and evidence of astrology. However, for most of these folks, they are simply parroting what others have told them, and are not speaking from personal experience or research.

Modern science is quick to shun its historical roots in religion, superstition and various occult practices. However, it is well known that astronomy and astrology were the same up until a few hundred years ago, and was primarily a predictive science used to guide the planting and harvesting of crop, and later the affairs of state. Modern chemistry is a direct outgrowth of the alchemists' search for a way to turn base metals into gold.

That being said, know that astrology is NOT a science. Reports of successful prediction may be due to any number of things which are not related to the stars - the intuition of the astrologers, an understanding of human psychology, selective memory, and distorted hind-sight -- making the data fit the prediction. And it is worth reiterating that much of the "occult" field is riddled with opportunists, frauds, charlatans and hoaxsters. So the skepticism you'll find is fairly well justified.

Having a education and background in both science and astrology, I am constantly amazed by its accuracy, and confounded by its errors, misses and disappointment. These often have more to do with me than with my stars (planets and other astronomical bodies.)

However, I have similar complaints about mainstream science, which if founded upon the philosophy of materialism, which has been rendered untrustworthy by its own discoveries in quantum theory. Science does not handle matters of spirit and mind very well at all, and choses instead to pretend such things either don't exist, or are not amenable to scientific study.

There are no pros, unless you count potential peace of mind brought about by believing pseudoscientific garbage. The cons include the fact that it doesn't give you any useful information, and that practicing it makes you look like a gullible moron to intelligent, informed people and like a satan-worshipping druid to religious extremists.

Here's an excellent page demonstrating just why and how astrology is a load of BS:

Pros of astrology: none.

Cons of astrology: appearing like an idiot to educated people.

Hope this helps.

Astrology is a pseudoscience. Try looking in something written by Hans Christian Anderson.
