Excellent question. Carter did it in the late '70's through public education and our national consumption went down substantially-I believe around 15 %. Seems like it would be a great way for Bush to attempt to clean up his legacy, at least a little bit, during his last year in office.

Not unless he can control the basic laws of economics/supply and demand.
He could influence OPEC and the other cartels to increase their production but that is a very temporary fix. He cant control any pricing with the exception of the amount of tax we pay on fuel.
We can bring the price down marginally by using alternative fuels and forcing automobile manufacturers to increase fuel efficiency. Bottom line, China is growing out of control and hungry for natural resources. As demand increases, so will the price of petroleum.

No. The regulation of the market can't control the price of anything. It ends up setting a fixed price for a non existing product.
The experts know that it doesn't work. Common sense says that it doesn't wok. Historically it never worked. There's no evidence that the prices can be controlled. And it has been tried over and over again.
But it's the government. They seem to be allowed to fail and try again (at a higher cost) endlessly.

because unlike very last three hundred and sixty 5 days, gas expenditures have not jumped as severe or as quick. each summer gas expenditures go up. it truly is been that way for a lengthy time period. yet very last three hundred and sixty 5 days gas changed into ridiculously severe for NO reason in any respect. 5.13 for a gallon of gas even as 5 months later (After Obama changed into elected) it changed into a million.80 5... c'mon. Had gas purely lengthy gone up "a pair of pennies" below Bush i do not have had to pay 70 funds to fill my tank.

Bush: Best US President Ever!!!!!
On September 11, George W didn’t get afraid!!!
He found and put in jail thousands of arabs living in America, to protect us from getting atacked again.
He went to war with Iraq and has killed millions of the terrorists that caused September 11 that were living in Iraq and being payed by Sadam Husein.
George Bush also went to Iraq and made sure that there were no WMD's (Wepons of Multiple Destruction). Now that we know there are no WMD's in Iraq we can all feel safe.
George W Bush has voted in congress to lower the taxes we pay to the government. It’s unfair that we have to pay TWENTY percent of what we make to people working for the government. That money shouldn’t go to those people, it should be used for us to have a better economy.
The second commandment of the constitution says “We have a right to bear arms.” (that means we can have any weapon we want so we can protect ourselfs) and president Bush supports that.
George W. Bush is pro-life (which means he doesn’t like abortions) and will vote in congress to stop them from ever happening. God says to make all human life precious and the killing of any life (like in abortion) is against God’s law.
George W uphoalds the death penilty and will execute men who break laws.
George W Bush has proposed an amendemnt in congress to not allow gays to marry. Gays don’t deserve the right to marry because the bible says marriage is between a man and a woman ONLY!

No. He can't tell OPEC what to set the price of oil at and he can only suggest to the US gas companies to lower their prices. This is capitalism. It is the law of supply and demand. Supply is down and demand is up, that means higher prices. We need to get used to that for the forseeable future.

There are probably a few minor things he can do directly but his foreign policy is where much of the high prices are coming from that he can control.

Absolutely. He's helping to keep the prices HIGH. You're on planet crack-smoking-moron if you think he's on your side or on the side of the average American. He's AGAINST you in every conceivable way. You mean less to him than the dirt under a piece of dog sht. He wants you and everyone like you to die, dry up, and blow away. Upsetting? Sure it is. Get out and vote next November for the Democratic nominee...

Yes he can subsidize fuels cost or reduce fuel taxes.
This has not been done because it is of very little benefit to the economy.
