The entire though of a private military is disconcerting, even neglecting the history.
A private military is not privy to the same scrutiny as a National Military is. They are acting on a code of ethics not outlined by legislators, rather CEO's. A private military acts upon private interest. They are a company, they are there to make a profit. Which means that in effect it is in their best interest to show that there is a need for more man power, and more resources. They can be nothing but a drain on the already depleted funds going into the war in Iraq.
The fact that this company as well as one other security firm has been wrought with scandal and speculation should not come as a surprise. These are not trained soldiers, they are not there to do a service to the nation. They are there to make money.

Comfortable with it?
The USA is only going to inflict, on a far wider group of its own citizens, the same type of terror tactics that it has inflicted on the rest of the world for a long time. If this move is enough to make the good people of the USA start to take notice of what has been done in their name, if they start to see through the incredible rubbish that passes for news in the popular media, and if they start to hold their elected representatives accountable, then the world will be a better place.
When the American people cheered when Oliver North was acquitted, it demonstrated to the right wing leaders that people will swallow any sort of lies, law-breaking, murder, drug-dealing, etc, by the government, just as long as it is wrapped in the Stars and Stripes.
Americans are just like everybody else on the planet. The great majority of people would rather do a stranger a good turn than a bad. They want to feel that they are the good guys, helping to protect and enlighten the weaker countries and people of the world. But Americans are insular. There are still Americans who believe that their actions in Vietnam were right. Most Americans do not know that the USA put Saddam Hussein into power in Iraq, they do not know that the Taliban were trained, armed and financed by the USA. They do not know of their government's dealings with drug lords, crime bosses, war lords, corrupt regimes in countries all over the world. Perhaps having Blackwater acting as thugs on behalf of the government might awaken the people of the USA to a wider reality, and take them beyond the idea that life is just a matter of eat, excrete, and watch TV.

What has Blackwater done that the regular military hasn't -- they've made a ton of money. You have it in reverse about who is subject to law. The US military follows the Uniform Code and all kinds of rules. There's a chain of command and accountability. As it stands, Blackwater security contractors are accountable to no one.

No, I'm actually very concern about that. What is happening to America, i see a trend here, you see bunch of murderers as guns for hire. that should be even illegal. who is responsible for all this madness ? Have we lost control over a gov we hired to do a job, and they are totally after their own agenda? We are the boss, not them? Folks don't let such events pass unchecked,
We need to question authority.
My Regards.

Well.... not the same thing at all.. the "Brown Shirts" were a Party function. Where did you hear that "the US wants to use para military on US soil"? A link backing up this assertion would be helpful.

That is a scary thought. I wonder if they will have immunity here to kill American citizens, too? Now I don't mind some contract work to be given out but the Bush folks giving out combat-like roles is pretty scary.

I'm not comfortable at all, with our government funneling resources to any para-military group.
Its just asking for trouble.
Reminds me of a Steven Segal movie.

Blackwater is there so our government doesn't have to pay benefits to vets and pay attention to rules of engagement. If you look into Katrina they have been used on US soil. Reports of them waving guns at kids and cussing at them. I believe a documentary is out.

I don't know, the bw team have to protect themselves but they shouldn't be too trigger-happy. Hard to say really. Should keep a low profile.
