--NOT THAT giving to honest charities with the most going to those in need rather than to greatly overpaid officials of such organizations, does have its place!
--INDEED they do much good!
--MANY TIMES in religion, formal arrangements seem to superceed "spontaneous christianity" which was what Jesus set the example in!
----WE SEE with him and the disciples acts motivated by love, pity, compassion, kindness etc.
--THUS JESUS made this observation:
(Mark 12:41-44) “41 And he sat down with the treasury chests in view and began observing how the ***crowd was dropping money into the treasury chests; and many rich people were dropping in many coins.
--42 Now a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins, which have very little value. 43 So he called his disciples to him and said to them: “Truly I say to YOU that this poor widow dropped in more than all those dropping money into the treasury chests; 44 for they all dropped in OUT OF THEIR SURPLUS (my caps), but she, out of her want, dropped in all of what she had, her whole living.””
--WHAT I mean by this is that people might be playing it safe(for their pocket book) by only giving at special times , but if in fact all people gave as they individually saw the need(from at times their own need), this indeed could have a far reaching experience beyond what we could imagine, for the world!
---It did in Jesus day!
***CROWD (MARK 12:41)
--SUCH poorly motivated giving could have been for show similar to why Jesus exposed the religious leaders for:
(Matthew 6:1-4) “. . .“Take good care not to practice YOUR righteousness in front of men in order to be observed by them; otherwise YOU will have no reward with YOUR Father who is in the heavens.
--2 Hence when you go making gifts of mercy, do not blow a trumpet ahead of you, just as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to YOU, They are having their reward in full. 3 But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, 4 that your gifts of mercy may be in secret; then your Father who is looking on in secret will repay you.”

I do every night of the week rain hail or shine volunteer and serve hot meals, sandwiches, coffee and donuts to up to150 plus homeless persons in Sydney. We have quite a few food vans at different parts of the city that feed homeless person all very good quality hot food every night. None of us who do this are religious who volunteer or make excuses not to help out. Many business's give donations such as food, clothes, shoes, blankets, toothbrushes and toothpaste soap and phone cards to homeless persons at the moment we are all busy packing food hampers and collecting toys for all the drought stricken family's. I work two jobs and still make time to volunteer without pay to help all these people because I just really enjoy doing it knowing these people work hard on the land growing and supplying food. So it's our turn to help them out during a bad time this is what true Aussie mateship is all about.

They want them to share in celebrating the pagan holiday so they will continue to believe it's special. They should forget the gift giving at Xmas and send the money to poor countries to feed the children.

There should always be a place where people can go and get something to eat. No one in this country should have to starve.
