Is that a brand new PC? two things. if they replace the whole PC, say goodbye to your files if you said they will fix the motherboard, or should they say they will replace the motherboard, because if the motherboard is the problem, I dont think they can fix it in just changing capacitor or IC then solder it back again, thus if they replace the motherboard, they should set up another windows for you. back up your files now. If your problem is turning on the PC then you got to take out the hardisk and put it in other computer which is another story. good luck.

They shouldn't but accidents happen. Certainly it's a common practice to try and clean-install the operating system to see if that solves the problem first!
If you have a spare $100 sitting in your wallet you'd be well advised to buy a second hard drive and replace your existing drive while you send it away. Just use the system restore disks to fresh install windows on the new disk before you send it.

Regardless of why your computer is being repaired, you should always backup the contents of the harddrive. Especially files and documents. Save them to a dvd or cd. Manufacturers do not take responsibility for lost information when the machine is send in for repair

I should certainly hope not. Are you sending them the whole system, or just the motherboard? Your files are stored on your hard drive, so if that doesn't go, you have nothing to worry about. If you send them the whole system, they *shouldn't* delete anything.

No, your info is safe. Definitely back your stuff up to CD or external hard drive.
You could take the drive out for security reasons, but I would contact the company first.
You would hate to ship it to them sans hard drive, and find out that they won't touch it unless the configuration is original.

For all you know, the Hard drive that the operating system is on is why your system won't bootup so you just may loose everything on it when they replace it and put a new operating system on it.
Unless you tell them not to format your hard drive they will and put a new operating system on it to eliminate that as a problem...they always do...

get an external hard drive and copy your files to it. repair centers have been known to reformat and reinstall all the software like it came from the factory.

There's no reason why they should - which brings me to my next point - You DO back up your data, don't you?
