Is the pump actually pumping something? Maybe it is stuck on because the float is jammed in the "up" position so it is pumping nothing. Also maybe the bearings or shaft seal is shot and making the noise.

Something in the pump is stuck and it is probably a bearing. It if overheats, you will have either a small or a large disaster. If small, the pump will burn itself out. If large, the pump could overheat and start a larger fire.
Try to reach it and feel to see if it is hot. If so, disconnect immediately and have the bearings and shaft checked. If not hot, wait a bit, and if it starts up again when turned back on you then need to check to see if it is trying to pump something, checking your sump outlet. Is your main pump okay? I forgot to add, check your off on switch. Could be it is trying to pump via a faulty switch.

Yeh, you could play around with it and hope. My suggestion is to buy a new one. You could play around with fixing and parts and when that's all over, you'll probably need a new one anyway.........Bite the bullet and just get a new one.
