My sweetie and our son, who's home from college, are at her relatives' for the holiday. I worked a short shift this morning but claimed it was going to be all day so I could use it as an excuse not to go to their house (can't stand 'em).
Ms. Red knows the truth, but is helping me out by keeping quiet about it. I will pay her back next week by going to a city a couple of hours away to meet an old friend of mine that she doesn't like who's traveling through our area, rather than inviting him here to the house.
She and I cover for each other all the time.
In the meantime, I'm eating Chinese food and playing on the computer. I may go out to the firing range at the town dump later this afternoon and shoot at some cans with my WW2-era carbine. I should have the place to myself because hunting season just started. I also have a new leftist book to read and two videos to watch. Not to mention a dog to walk and a long-haired cat to brush. I won't be bored.
If all works out well, Ms. Red and Red Jr. will be back tomorrow night, with pie and other leftovers, and I won't have had to deal with her relatives. And on Saturday and Sunday I can spend some time with Jr., who I've missed terribly, but I wouldn't want him to miss spending time with his relatives on his Mom's side just cause I don't like 'em.

I just got home from work. Why don't people just stay home and watch football and eat instead of shopping for a frozen turkey that won't be done today?
