powers of i go like this:

i^1 = i
i² = -1
i³ = -i
i^4 = 1......... and then repeat
so if we divide 2006 by 4, we get 501 r. 2, 2006 mod 4 = 2, so
i^2006 = i² = -1

somewhat more algebraically,
i^2006 = [(i^4)^501][i²] = [1^501][-1] = 1[-1] = -1
