I understand how you feel, but you should never just follow something blindly. I'm a Yankees fan, but I don't always defend them, I never liked the A Rod deal, and I hate the re-signed him, I didn't like how the treated Joe Torre or how they treated Yogi Berra (when he was their manager). The whole Billy Martin thing was so ridiculous it was funny. I've been a Yankees' fan allot longer than you have, you don't remember the 1980's when the Yankees did suck. What made it even worse was the Mets were good, I'm from NYC so I had to hear all the Mets' fans. But even during the 1980's, I was still a Yankees' fan.
All you have known was the Yankees being a good team, which is fine, let's face it, the 1980's was the only decade, since prior to 1920, that they did suck, so that is all anyone knows is the Yankees being a good team.
You should always defend being a fan, of the Yankees or whatever team you (I don't mean you specifically, I mean "you" in the general sense of anyone) are a fan of, but not always defend that team. Be honest about the good and bad about your team. If they suck, be honest, but still be a fan. Like I said I don't like the A Rod, Torre & Berra situations, I admitted the Yankees stunk in the 1980's, but I am and have always been a Yankees fan.

Here's the distinction. If the Yankees were truly bad and someone said they sucked, would you agree, or argue?
If you agree, then unfortunately you lose all the credibility because your opinion will be that they smell like a rose even when it's manure.
If you would agree that they suck, when they suck, your opinion would be taken more seriously.
If you only see through the homer glasses of a favourite team, it's hard to take those people seriously.
Additionally, if someone says the team I favour sucks, I will simply respond with "I appreciate your opinion", because ultimately, you will never win a fight against someone's opinion, even if it's to rile you up.
There is always something you can pick out.
They didn't win the world series, they suck.
They didn't make the playoffs, they suck
Sure, they won the world series, but look at what they spent to do so?
See what I mean, it's a pointless exercise. Much easier to get new friends.

Yes, I do. I am a die hard Yankee fan. However, I would like to ask you a question. You live in California, and I would like to know why you chose the Yankees instead of the teams that are in California like the A's, Giants, Padres, Angels, or Dodgers? There is nothing wrong with being a Yankee fan from California, but I would like to know.

I defend my team when I think they need defending or deserve it. I'm not gonna defend my team for doing something stupid. Sure I may take a longer look at it and try to find reasons to defend but in the end if they don't deserve defending I will not do that. Now being a fan through thick and thin is a much different thing.
Defending your team no matter what is foolish sometimes and in those times most of the time makes you look the same.

I'm a Red Sox and a Yankee fan that lives in New England so I hear so much stuff about the Yankees. Of course I stand up for them. They usually shut up if I say enough stats for them.
And people are now starting to hate the Red Sox, I've noticed. We are the team with the most heart and the most teamwork.

Yes, I'm a Dodger fan and I always have and always will defend them. I love the Dodgers. I remember one time when I was in highschool, I got into an argument with my teacher because he was saying that the Dodgers suck. I won that argument by the way.

In my experience, it's just fine. I went to see the Red Sox play the Cardinals at Busch Stadium for game 3 of the 2004 World Series and the Cardinal fans there were extremely nice! I've been to more NL ballparks than AL, so when I see the Red Sox play, it's usually at Fenway Park and there are plenty of other Red Sox fans cheering along with me! I haven't been to a Red Sox-Yankees game at Yankee Stadium, but I'm not so sure how that would go. *lol* I'm sure it'd be fine.

Of course a die-hard fan would protect their team till the death and no one should even be talking smack about the Yankees unless they win 26 rings then they can even be in the same sentence together.
