Are you sure the R is right. The only answer I can think of is sandshoes, the original name of the plimsoll.

Well I know that a plimsoll is an athletic type shoe that was first used as beachwear when it was developed in London. I'm not great at crosswords but I enjoy doing them. So if you know the answer, can you give us a hint. Like the first letter..... :-)
P.S. Are you sure you have those letters right. A good answer would be sneaker
