I'm alone and working, and have no other options but to either bring it or buy it.

I don't see anything wrong with going out to dinner if that's what a person wants to do.

My former mother-in-law stopped cooking Thanksgiving dinner years ago (I think it was the year *after* I cooked for the first time. My dinner was great and everyone complimented me and the food all night. I think she gave up after that...lol!) and now she gets her holiday meals pre-made from the grocery store. It's disgusting. The turkey was awful (slimy!) and there were four different kinds of cranberry sauce! She didn't even bother to cook rolls or make a salad on her own. I said "never again" after that. Ugh.

I just finished preparing my turkey to put in the oven. We're eating at about 3:00 today (it's 9:30 am now) so it's not time to cook the bird yet. There are just 3 of us this year -- my son, his dad, and me -- so the turkey is only 10 lbs., but that's plenty. I'm also making crescent rolls, stuffing, french fries (family tradition), and green bean casserole. We'll have cranberry sauce straight from a can (the only kind I like) and then pumpkin cheesecake for dessert.

Do you have any Idea how long it takes to cook a turkey with all the trimmings? Plus the cost of using the oven and stove and all the dishes to clean. When you get to be Granny's age It's no fun to do all that work.. ordering out is not a bad idea. Some take out places you can buy a cooked turkey at are even better then the one cooked at home. Another way to go about this, Is you Cook the Turkey yourself with all the goodies to go with it, carve the turkey and when every ones done, you do the dishes. I bet you will think buying a turkey after that is a great Idea! and have more respect for Granny in the future. And by the way, when you eat out at a resturant Now get this, Wow, no cooking, no carving ,no mess and no dishes. Way to go Granny!

Personally, I do not! However, I do know a few individuals that have done this in the past and are doing so this year as well. It is all a matter of preference. Some such as the elderly, may not have the time and energy to cook and clean up. A huge job, they may not want the excessive left overs. So these options are suitable. Then of-course you have those who do not have family or family they wish to be around. It is not what you eat or who prepared it, it is more about togetherness with those you love and love you, and being grateful for what you have.... God bless****

There are a lot of folks that dont have a family to celebrate the holiday with. Theres nothing wrong with having Thanksgiving dinner any way you wish. Also, some folks dont want to go through the hassle of cooking a large family dinner. Its not messed up. Its reality..deal with it. Look at Mexican Leonas answer at the top.....make an effort.

I am this time because I don't see the need to cook a turkey roll and a green bean casserole in addition to deviled eggs and a pumpkin pie for just me.

i do no longer think of that a turkey gets as huge because of the fact the single it says i choose. that's a good internet site. i'm happy that all and sundry fills up with all the trappings and extras so as that the 17-18 pounder i purchase will slot in the roasting pan.

I ordered pizza a few years back.

Maybe your granny is sick of slaving over a hot oven all day. Turkeys take forever to cook.
