IT'S ON SYMBOLISM IN THE SCARLET LETTER. I CANNOT INCLUDE IT BECAUSE IT IS ALMOST 5 PAGES LONG BUT HERE IS THE BEGINNING....

Nathaniel Hawthorne is a great author and a master of literary devices. His book, The Scarlet Letter, is overflowing with symbolism. All of the symbols of the book have to do with one of the major themes of the book, which are sin, Puritan society, knowledge, identity, love, and the nature of evil.

THEN I HAVE A BUNCH OF PARAGRAPHS EXPLAINING THE EXAMPLES OF SYMBOLISM....
HOW SHOULD I END THE ESSAY?

Nikki have you explored any of the already written conclusions in order to develop your own?
If not, then here are some links that might help along with some excerpts for possibilities in development.
Sometimes it helps you to focus when you see what others have written and you think "yea that's what I mean"
I've included a forum link just in case,
also to let you know you aren't alone on being stuck.
Good Luck.!! granny

Hawthorne's novel is concerned with the effects of the affair rather than the affair itself,

Hawthorne chose to leave out the details of the adulterous rendezvous
he was concerned with the aftermath of the affair--

Hawthorne takes advantage of his greatest assets as a writer--the interiority of his writing, his exploration of thoughts and emotions--and uses them to humanize all the parties

The end of any essay should be a conclusion, either a summary of what you have said or an opinion about the content. For example I am a great Beatle fan so if I had written an essay on, say, their origins and the period just before they became famous I could end like this:-

So there we have it. The start of The Beatles. Who would ever have thought that from such humble beginnings, traumatic upbringings and the influence of the Hamburg adventure the world was about to discover one of the greatest phenomenons that the entertainment industry ever produced. From the early schoolboy efforts of the Quarrymen through the phases of the Silver Beetles, Johnny and the Silver Beatles (notice the subtle change of spelling), the emergence of The Beatles, the death of Stuart Sutcliffe and the undignified sacking of Pete Best as drummer, the final lineup of John, George, Paul and Ringo will be forever remembered as typified in slogan built into the sculpture that adorns the wall outside the site of the original Cavern Club in Liverpool. 'Four Lads Who Shook The World'.

That's how I would do it. make of it what you will. Best wishes and good luck for your own ending.

Due to the fact that Nathanial Hawthorne, enjoyed writing in such an acquisitive way for the sheer purpose of teaching others about his society and what he felt it should be, the best possible solution would be to tie the whole essay up into one moral. Possible state or hint at the moral a bit in the beginning so what way you can tie the book up with a moral. This would be the major themes wrapped up into one moral. The moral could be something to the effect of... how Pearl and her mother had overcome the Puritan society, which rooted in what they believed as deities, but really appears to us as the nature of evil and understood knowledge, identity and love.

One of the skills we all need to develop is the ability to summarize our own ideas. If we write the conclusion for you, you will not learn how to do that.
Also, you need to go to what you ACTUALLY said to get a good conclusion.

Ask yourself what you learned about symbolism, or how symbolism worked over all in this novel. It sounds to me from your introduction like you've really set out a lot of information. What can you conclude about how Hawthorne reacted to sin, love, evil, etc? The symbols seem to have what in common?

Your best conclusion is not something pre-packaged. It's something you yourself conclude.
