Why not? Our Secretary of State is African-American. Several generals are African-American. If Barack Obama gives good speeches and captures the imagination of his audiences, he could be elected.

Why do we even need to contemplate this question? Whether or not it's Obama or not, why would people "not" be ready for a black President? What difference would a color of his/her skin make?

If you're asking "is the U.S. ready for Obama", then ask it, don't disguise it as a question of race. This question doesn't belong in today's society. Look, everybody's entitled to their own opinion on things, but someone who doesn't vote for someone just because of their color, gender, or creed is sad, and violates everything American freedom stands for.

But, of course, that's just my personal opinion.

Was America ready for a spiled rich kid from Texas whose cowboy antics put us trillions of dollars in debt over a vindictive, immoral, unconstitutional war against another sovereign nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States?
I don't think so!
ANYONE - black, white, male, female, mentally deranged, homosexual, athiest, cross dresser, vegetarian or Muslim disbarred lawyer - would be better that the jerk who occupies the Oval Office today!

I think it's past time for there to be a black pres. You know what the US needs? A gay African-American President. We need a completey different point of view. No more evangelical, conservative, republican b.s. please!

Sure, do you know of any that aren't racist?

Obama has made several speeches that said things like "There will be racial riots across the country if I'm not elected". He shouldn't be allow to run for dog catcher.
