Many OSHA cases are opened and closed on the same day. OSHA doesn't usually "open" the case when the complaint is received, but when it's assigned to an inspector.

If the inspector then comes out to the facility and either finds that the complaint is invalid, or that it's valid and the owner is able to fix it right away, he'll close it right then.

Ahcho... OSHA is no joke. I deal with them a lot, and they hand out hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines. I've never heard of OSHA "laughing" at a complainant. If they did, I suggest it would be because the person making the complaint had no idea at all about the law and was complaining about something that wans't illegal.

OSHA is a joke. I've tried to turn people in who have made gross violations and when I called OSHA, they just laughed at me.
