I frequently see job postings that interest me but then I see that the employer requries a "related" degree and/or experience.

One example: EEO investigator for the US Department of Labor. I could do this with some training, some OJT training.
I am certain. I have a technical degree.

The way things are going, it will soon be necessary, when applying for a janitorial job to have an associates degree in Janitorial Technology.

I think the problem is that all these thousands of schools and colleges need to stay in business. If employers quit requiring bogus and unnecessay educational credentials, a lot of schools would go under and the teachers and administrators would have to get honest work.

Education is power. Go get some.

I understand your frustration, but the way things are moving, a mechanic from thirty odd years ago must continue his training, or he will not be able to work on today's fuel injection engines, computerized systems, etc. Now bring your hydrogen fuel cell hybrid BMW to him, and watch him scratch his head.

If you are going into the IT field, it has become necessary for you to constantly continue your education, or your degree will be worthless in 5 years.

Gov't. jobs are usually cake walks, if you can stomach the routine boredom. An education in the field usually means you have some kind of passion for it, and aren't applying just to get a cushy gov't. gig.

As it stands, professional cleaning services have to have particular environmental end haz-mat certs so they know what chemicals can be used in what applications, without poisoning anyone or themselves, so what you're talking about ain't far off.

So, you are smart enough to see it coming. That's a good sign. At least if you get your **** in school now, it won't be a wasted education!

I work for a company that recently revised the pay scale. Entry level pay for anything you can be trained to do by co-workers. 2nd tier pay level if you get an associates degree. 3rd tier pay level.......and so on. No degree? No good pay.

I was just promoted but I do not have an associates degree so I get entry-level pay. It is just the way our corporations are going these days. They don't even give a second look to an application from someone that indicates they never finished high school.

You could just get off you butt, get a loan, apply for government grants and go to school...or you can keep whining.

You could NOT do this work because you cannot even look at the job requirements with out screaming "that's not fair".

There are standards, you have to meet them.
