I use a mouse and use photoshop frequently but I know photoshop users who say that once you use a graphics tablet they would never go back to a mouse

For freehand drawing, I use a digital graphics tablet and stylus about 90% of the time. Sometimes, a sketch out a rough, or, even finished ink drawing on paper and then, scan it into my computer to color and finish.

For images that may need to be scaled larger, I use Adobe Illustrator's vector drawing tools.

Drawing with a mouse is slow and cumbersome. Many artists describe it as "drawing with a brick." Very few, if any, pros draw with a mouse. The investment in a drawing tablet pays for itself in a very short time in time savings, alone!

I doubt ANYONE really uses a touch pad to draw, especially at a professional level.

A mouse, but only because I started out before graphics tablets were invented! A tablet is a better option really, you have far more control and it takes years to get really accurate with a mouse.

Wacom Pad or bust !

I'm a Wacom fan myself. Started with the small one and just love the pen. I only use a mouse if I have to.

I used a touchpad simply because it gives you more freedom to work.
