Disclaimer: I don't mean to challenge the notion of gay rights or suggest that the GLBT community owes anything to the Black clergy. However, it seems that many prominent GLBT voices (e.g. Dan Savage) often criticize / attack the Black clergy about some of its teachings (and the existence of fellows like Donnie McClurkin), but never give props to guys like Al Sharpton (who is in favor of gay marriage) and Jessie Jackson (who has been in favor of gay rights at least since 1984, way before it became fashionable). As we say in the 'hood, Wassup with that?

Gays owe the whole civil rights movement because gays and women profited more from the march on washington than anyone.

TK: just because you don't like how al and jessie conduct their business they both are ordained ministers, jesse marched with martin luther king so i respect him for that alone and al is needed because as long as theres a al sharpton people will be wary of what they say.

I do not think many people (from all walks of life) considers Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson as clergy men. They are more known for their civil rights movement than anything else.

Problem with both men are that they are very racially motivated. Namely, they are pro black (which is perfectly fine) but against every other race. (which is not good). They distort and turn every issue into something against blacks by other races. Their claims are overly inflammatory and one sided. I don't blame gay rights community from distancing themselves from them.
