The are certain mineral water products that bear the name O2 and are claimed to contain more oxygen (up to 15%) than normal water. Is this possible...? I water is H2O than how is this possible...wouldn't that just be hydrogen peroxide?..(it is a while since i had my chemistry classes..)

Well yeah to an extend it is a gimmick as one such product had written on it that it naturally contains more oxygen, meaning they don't even add it. does anyone know how do solved oxygen molecules behave in water?

As Dustin_Barr & Ferrous Lad said, gaseous oxygen can be dissolved in water.

I still think it's a gimmick though. The air we breathe is about 21% oxygen and our lungs are the most efficient organs for absorbing it, not our stomachs or intestines!

I suppose you could benefit from oxygen enriched water if you were a fish!

You're right--introducing another oxygen into the water molecule would be, indeed, hydrogen peroxide. They're probably dissolving more oxygen into the water, just as CO2 is dissolved in water to make seltzer.

It's not possible to add more oxygen to the water molecules themselves but oxygen can dissolve in water. That is what is meant by "contains more oxygen".

It's fraud. you are quite right. Water is water, one combined oxygen for every two combined hydrogens, and can only dissolve a very small amount of extra oxygen. If the oxygen is combined as hydrogen peroxide, that is something you should definitely not be drinking, but I don't think that it is.

Oxygen is a water soluble gas, so they could have figured out a way to dissolve more gaseous oxygen in water than is found in typical waters. So yes it is possible.

they are refering to oxygen gas O2 (not the oxygen atom in H2O)

oxygen gas , O2, can dissolve in water to variuos extents

i suppose that you can buy water with different levels of dissolved O2

hydrogen only has a valency of 2 so it cant bond to any more oxygen...maybe they just put o2 into the water...if that makes any sense

yah i seen these and wondered tht too. i think its just a gimic to get you to buy like that make up that says it has oxygen in it. that means you dont get much for your money and its really no better!
