i'm not sure if the correct answer would be 2H2 + O2 ---> 2H20

or 2H + .5O2 ----> H2O

You are using complete molecules of hydrogen and oxygen, and that should tell you the answer.

Yep, the first one is right!

To balance it, you need twice as much hydrogen as oxygen, because the formula is H2O.

2H = 2 hydrogens
5O2 = 10 oxygens

2H2 = 4 hydrogens
O2 = 2 oxygens
