Here the way it goes
u have to change 2 into 10 that is 2*5 = 10
as u did so for 2 u have to do same thing t 1 that is 1*5=5
then u get
9 1/2 = 9 5/10 = 9.5 ( not that 5/10 is .5 )

here is another example
convert 8 3/5 into a decimal number

u have to change 5 into 10 that is 5*2 = 10

as u did so for 5 u have to do same thing t 3 that is 3*2=6

8 3/5 = 8 6/10 = 8.6

here is another example

convert 7 3/4 into a decimal number

since we can't change 4 to 10 ( there is no integer to multiply with 4 that gives 10 ) we have to change 4 into 100

4*25= 100
3*25=75

7 3/4 = 7 75/100 = 7.75
good luck

well the answer above is right but how do you get to it?

this is how i learned:

Take the whole number (9) multiply it by divisor (2) and add the divident (1)
(excuse the manes i think they are right:

so any way 9*2 = 18 + 1 = 9 you divide that by the divisor (2)

19/2 = 9.5

ant it will work for every fraction

that is the long way the short way si to take the faction 1/2 and do that divide 1/2 = .5 add the whole number and the fraction and you have your number

the last number, 2 is in the hundreths place, so place 22 over 100. Your answer should look like this: 1 & 22/100 = 1 & 11/50 which is 1.22 However, 1 & 2/9 is 1.2222222222222222.... etc. if your question asked how to change this # into a decimal, here's how you would do it: 1.348 the last number, 8, is in the thousandths spot, so you would write 1 & 348/1000 and reduce. I hope this answers your question, good luck on your homework!
