and introduce the following reforms to stop rewarding those who don't positively contribute to our society?

Put in place a procedure whereby those who claim unemployment benefit for longer than 3 months in any 12-month period are either:

a) forced to subscribe to a properly-supervised (stricter than that which currently exists) community-based programme before receiving further benefits.

OR

b) given the opportunity to join a military-style boot-camp with a view to becoming a full-time member of our armed forces.

Also, ask those who claim disability allowance to undertake regular medical procedures to ensure they are unsuitable for ANY type of work.

This would help reignite a difficult relationship that all political parties currently have with a very-disillusioned British public, who, for the most, are being subjected to very inefficient tax-and-spend policies and seeing comparitively little in return.

Northern Lad - Agreed not everyone can work but most of the people who claim disablity can. As I'm sure you looked into this you would know that the government made transfering of to disability extremely easy, in fact acnie is a vaild reason. This drops the Unemployment figures.

thought - The base rate isn't very good, above minimum wage though. Add on to that addition benifits and it starts to get much better. I personally know people who are earning around £19K a year off benefits.

here is the petition again as I missed an s off the end.

The government are always whipping up everyone against the most vulnerable people in our society. I'm sure there are not as many 'scroungers' as they make it seem there are. Who in their right minds would willingly live on the pittance they pay out in benefits?? Not many. Most people are doing the same thing, the best they can for their families, if you can't work or find work that doesn't make you a sponger.

In comparison to the defence budget, the welfare budget is minuscule, but I never hear them saying anything about that. It's all political hot air, to distract people from what they are really up to.

It should be overhauled but your idea of "boot camp" is unworkable.

If an unemployed person was actually presented with a job (not just left to apply for them on their own) and told "do this job or get no more benefit" it might force some people into work.

However not everyone on benefits is lazy or refusing to work. Some are but many are genuine and it is unfair to lump them all together. Part of the problem is that the Government have flooded the job market with cheap immigrant labour and there is virtually no funding for young people to train and get skilled up. Employers would rather take on an experienced skilled immigrant for minimum wage than take on a 23 year old unskilled British lad and spend money training him up and then pay him a good wage. So the young lad find it impossible to get work other than crappy dead end unskilled stuff for £5.50 an hour which won't even cover his rent. Catch 22.

The benefit system is a complete farse, tax payers who work hard are paying for layabouts and immigrants who have not done anything to support or make any contribution to the country. very valid questions and good ideas prevent the youth falling into the yob layabout culture from leaving education and only allow benefits to people who have earned the right to be supported by other tax payers who dont get a say in the matter. This government lacks the backbone to stand up and make decisions if you provide nothing to country or have no interest in doing so yeah boot camp to learn respect and dignity.

If you are claiming benefits without need then you are a sponger.

Without need means being in exactly the same situation as other people who still manage to work.

My dad walks in pain constantly every day from his back... he is morbidly obese and can't even stand up right. He can't take painkillers as they make him drousy. He works full time and over-time.

I'd certainly sign it but the link doesn't work. If there is no jobs in the area, then make them do community service for the benefits... what is unfair about that. It'll enhance your CV and get you experience.

Not working to look after the kids is a luxury that you need to be able afford without benefits.

Yes.
It is far too complicated and employs too many staff.
Because of this it is open to abuse;which is defrauding the taxpayer.
The taxpayer pays because the government has no money other than revenue collected by way of taxation.

That's fine if your trying to oust the scammers, but the disabled are always being picked on by the Government. Its already extremely hard to get Disability and the regular medical checks you speak of are already in place for them

i think benefits should be given to British citizens and not immigrants who just turn up in our country with their hands open and don't want to contribute to our society.as for your question would Say yes to UN-employment but no to the disability, what if someone finds it hard to get around and going for medical examinations every week/month could be exhausting.

the government should visit those people on benefits to see whether they worthy of having them so the benefits can go towards the people who really need it and not to the ones who just don't want to work or the government could try harder to expose these benefit frauds.
