Ties tend to denote a measure of respect to those you are addressing as well as a measure of self-respect in your own appearance. If you wish to project that sense, then go for it.

Yes , of course tie symbolizes professional qualities of a person , but interviewer can always find who is acting like a decent person .
So , don't try to have a fake personality .
BE REAL , BE HONEST.
If you are comfortable with White T - shirt and a Blue jeans . Then just wear it and be Confident .

In my opinion, it shows you are put together. Neat and Tidy says a lot when going into any interview situation. If you dont want to seem uptight, try a fun printed tie, that shows you are serious about your interview, and also you have a sense of humor.

Well if you want look like a slobbish unporfessional piece, then a tie isn't important at all. You should go in dressed comfortable, try some hollister jeans with holes in them, a wife beater and flip flops. You'll nail the job for sure!

A tie is considered part of formal business attire and isn't optional for a college interview.

If your ambition is to give a first good impression and you wear a shirt with buttons it would give you a neat and smashing accent. If you wear a turtle neck, I don't think you should wear a tie.
