You know what pisses me off about that ad? With all the money they make from selling pads and tampons they want to ask us to contribute to their sending them to Africa? Does that mean that they are making a new market and calling it charity?
Hey I know that many women in the 3rd world use boiled rags to deal with their period. And some women in the 1st world use cloth menstrual pads. Some women use menstrual cups and are happy. I don't want my money going to help sell Tampax and calling it women's health or charity.

Why is that demeaning? To whom?
Menstruation is a natural cycle for women - not something to be ashamed of! And if there is an issue regarding the need for money or assistance in Africa, how else should they get the message out? Small minds are always offended easily...

i heard a report on npr just the other day about this problem actually keeping young women out of school. if you are missing one to two weeks of every month it's hard to keep up with the boys academically. the idea is to allow them an equal education...as for rags and other options consider the lack of convenience in using non disposable options. i think it's sad and i'm gonna send 'em a friggin' check.

The ad I think was encouraging people to donate so they could send tampons and pads to girls in Africa.. Something like that..
I personally wouldn't go out either, if I had blood dripping down my legs all day.

I don't think they're ashamed. It's just no fun to walk around with sticky blood dripping down your legs. Why can't they use rags? That's what people did before tampons and pads.

Before sanitary products were manufactured, women everywhere wore towels, napkins or something. No one is going to do that.

I heard they dripped into a pot an made a bouillabaisse out of it - to feed their village. What could be demeaning about that?
