Facebook is a social networking website that allows people to communicate with their friends and exchange information. Launched on February 4, 2004, Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg, a former member of the Harvard class of 2006 and former Ardsley High School student. Initially the membership was restricted to students of Harvard College. It was subsequently expanded to all Ivy League schools within two months. Many individual universities were added in rapid succession over the next year. Eventually, people with a university (e.g .edu, .ac.uk, etc.) email address from institutions across the globe were eligible to join. Networks were then initiated for high schools and some large companies. Since September 11, 2006, it has been made available to users with any email address[2], if they are within a certain age range. Users can select to join one or more participating networks, such as a high school, place of employment, or geographic region.

It's the more mature version of Myspace. And it's a lot more simple. And there have been no reports of hacking, unlike Myspace.

it;s a wanna be myspace, but for a different crowd, usually the university crowd. definitely not more mature. the average facebook user is younger than myspace. id say the facebook crowd is more the teeny bopper type, popping zits.
i dont know what you mean by more protected but less people can view your profile. only those from your network. i dont think its any less dangerous than myspace. if you dont want people to find you, just set your profile to private. facebook requires you to put a real name, but you can still use a fake one. if you dont want people to find you then use a fake name.

oh my god it is my life! Facebook is like myspace, but more protected because you can set all sorts of privacy levels to it. It's easy to use, and I am absolutely hooked. It is a very easy way to get in touch with your friends, share news, see pictures, and have fun. There is VERY little danger about it. You can tell your parents that.

facebook is the best.. it has privacy settings which you can change to suit you.. like totally making it impossible for a person other than the friends you have added to even search you on facebook...
Its a very secure website...
you can even alter your privacy settings to make it such that
even your friends friends wont be able to see your name.. if you'd commented on a friends profile ..your friends friends who visit that persons profile cannot see your name or disply picture.. all there would appear is a question mark to them where your name and disply pic is there..
Only your friends(the ones you add on facebook) can actually see you on facebook and visit your profile...
Once you've created a facebook account
to make changes to your privacy settings.. all you have to do is click "account" on the top right corner of your account and then make the changes you want to make..
I use facebook too :D and i love it.. its really fun.. you can add fun applications to your profile ,share stories with your freinds... gossips... post on your frends profile... and many more
In fact I'm addicted to facebook now...
Its so amazing ..its a great place to spend time online..
My bigbro is very protective of me and he adviced me to use facebook cos of that..... and he taught me how to change my privacy settings and stuff
so If you have any probs feel free to contact me...
talk to your parents about it..
theres no danger there as long as your privacy setting are suited to your particular need...
Its much better than Myspace

As of October 2007, the website had the largest number of registered users among college-focused sites, with 43 million active members worldwide, with membership expected to surpass 60 million users by the end of the year (also from non-collegiate networks). As of mid-November, active membership is quoted at 54 million. From September 2006 to September 2007 it increased its ranking from 60th to 5th most visited web site, and was the number one site for photos in the United States, ahead of public sites such as Flickr, with over 8.5 million photos uploaded daily.
The name of the site refers to the paper facebooks depicting members of the campus community that some U.S. colleges and preparatory schools give to incoming students, faculty, and staff as a way to get to know other people on campus.
