If this piano player was so one-dimensional as to believe that his life is worthless without playing piano, then I think he mightily underestimated life and himself. If his wish is to end his life then it is his decision. I would not force him to do anything. It's sad to me that people have such notions.
Just imagine if Stephen Hawking felt that way...

I would be inclined to engage him in conversation to find out why he feels that playing the piano is the only joy in his life.
There is so much more available to him that he may find it of value to find something else far more enthralling.
Rebuilding a life is not easy - but there are a lot of people that have already had to do it. Many of them are finding new ways to enjoy life now.

i never thought that i had a right to decide if someone should try to kill themselves or not. i would probably try to talk them out of it, but if they were really determined, well, i would stop trying. however, i would never believe that the only thing in life you could love was one thing. would i "force them" to value their life? no. i would just ask them think about it.

No no no! Why would he kill himself if he can still enjoy the sound and music of a piano?!?

This universe is large. Is the piano player THAT small-minded? Death shouldn't even come into consideration. That's just chicken.

"would you allow him to kill himself?"
It is not up to me to allow or disallow.
Watch the movie 'Whose Life is it, Anyway'. It exactly addresses your point, only the person is a sculptor.

Your question is one of culture. It is allowed for animals to die, but for people to die in this culture, they are not allowed to kill themselves since they have a soul.
Now in mainland China, there are mobile "euthanasia" trucks that allow people this option should they be in too much pain to live.
Who is to say what is correct? Who are we to judge? Whose life is it anyway?
