So for years and years now ppl have activated against fur pelts and clothing made largely from animal coats. I dont agree with it either. But iv recently started wondering why society allows the use of leather and other animal products?

Good old "genuine bovine hide" isn’t the only popular non-furry clothing addition out there anymore... crocodile skin, zebra skin, and iv noticed the new thing is to have Eel skin. It looks and feels just like good old pleather, but we still have this yearning to own a piece of a dead animal?

how do u feel about these things?

Bashing the rich is always popular. Fur is seen as a luxury item, therefore, the shallow and simpleminded can feel good about themselves by telling each other how immoral rich people are for wearing fur.

I feel fur is wrong because its simply for vanity. A long time ago people had to wear fur to stay warm but this isnt the case anymore. Animals shouldnt be killed JUST for their fur. Yes we wear leather but all parts of the cow are used for one thing or another, not just the hide. And a lot of fur comes from the raccoon dog which is not a raccoon but a species of dog. There is a video that shows the poor animal being slammed to the ground and skinned alive.
I think we could do a lot more in protecting farm animals too. Chickens spend their entire lives crammed in little cages so we can have cheap eggs......we should buy cage free eggs! I could go on and on but you can read it all here:

I would never wear real fur, animal skin, etc. if I could help it. Faux fur looks just as good in terms of a fashion statement. I try really hard not to get leather, but it's tough not to. I mean, I would never buy a a leather shirt or pants or even gloves. But the problem is that lots of times companys put leather into shoes =( So It's hard to get away from it. BTW, I'm only twelve, so it's kind of rough. I mean, my parents won't let me be a vegetarian and they bought a HUGE leather couch a few years back. They figure that if a cow is already being killed for its meat, then it's a waste not to use their skin/hide. I wish cows weren't killed at all, but then I get back to the vegetarian argument with them...sorry for my nonsense rambling...*tOOdLeS*

I know I'll probably get creamed for saying this and it's not that I don't care about animals, but in my opinion, God created man above animals and therefore the animals are subject to us. I don't believe in cruelty to any animal, but God did provide the first covering for sinful man made from the skin of an animal. I have worn fur, will continue to wear it, and have worn leather and will continue to do the same. The reason nobody is complaining is the person who is most bothered by 'leather' has not spoken up yet. When they do, and find a crew of people who believe as they do - you'll see and hear marches against it. We are a people who 'react' instead of act. Just like taking prayer out of schools - started with one woman (she's dead now) and snowballed.

The fact is fur looks better on the animal. Killing animals....you know...like baby seals or endanged leopards soley for their fur is a crime! Especially with some of the ways these animals are killed.
Hides are usually acceptable because the animal is used for other things other than the hide. Cows, crocodile and eel are edible and their hides are durable.
I agree. Imitation is better and in most instances looks better and lasts longer.
Let's save our furry and thick-skinned friends! If we don't, we won't have a world left!

Many furs comes from small animals that gets killed just for the pelts, but leather is normally made from animals when the animal is slaugtered for other reasons than for its skin. Beef, sheep etc. Zebra gets killed for meat and crocs get killed in africa also for meat or to keep numbers down.

It is not that hard to see why... Bovine is ate by many around the world. Something should be done with the hides! Do we waste them? If one is a vegetarian, they may object to any animal being killed for their meat. I do not know of any that eat raised fur bearing animals. Mink is not that on the market, unless I am not in the special crowd! So we see the difference in that some are very good to eat.. Mink is not, as far as my knowledge is on that subject

i don't agree with any of them. however, some people just aren't aware some things they are wearing is a dead animal. it's obvious that real fur comer from animals, but i have a friend who wasn't sure if her boots were real skin or not. with all of the alternatives now, some people just don't know or aren't aware. i think people need to pay more attention to this because not many people want to give up their clothing!

Fur is just leather with the hair still attached. I suppose the anti-fur people would argue that since cow leather, etc. is a by-product of the meat industry it is acceptable.

Myself, I believe in natural selection so if the critters don't want to be eaten or worn by me they should evolve to the point that they don't stick their foot in a trap or whatever.

The only way I'll wear leather if its on my sneakers but I try to get fake leather. Occasionally I can't find any fake leather shoes so I get real leather. I definitely don't go out of my way to own a piece of dead animal!
