Jude Law probably wasn't born when I first read "The Picture of Dorian Gray". I pictured rock singer, Jim Morrison.

Jude Law was actually in a Oscar Wilde biopic called "Wilde". He played Lord Alfred Douglas, Wilde's real life gay partner; that relationship landed him in jail for almost the rest of his life.
The funny thing about this movie is that Law's character is so much like Dorian Gray....it is obvious that the director wanted to make the character of Lord Alfred like Dorian. So check it out, it was a decent movie and Jude Law definitely makes a great Lord Douglas/ Dorian Gray!

I couldn't picture Jude Law as Dorian Gray at all. If you were looking for a contemporary actor to play him I think Jake Gyllenhaal would be the most appropriate, provinding he could master an English accent

Mmmm...I never thought of it that way, but now that you mention it he would be good for the part!
I think Jude Law just needs a bit of softening around his eyes, at least at the beginning of the book, when Dorian was pure and innocent. He IS perfect for it, especially the latter half of the book.

I agree with David S, I couldn't picture Jude Law as Dorian Gray at all
I imagine him nearly like Raoul in "The Tree Musketeers"(A.Dumas) or maybee like Johnny Depp (but like he is in "Charlie and the chocolate factory" not in " Pirates of Caribbean"!)

Like most of Wilde's output it is very stylised but a great read. I don't think mirrors are presented as anything more than low-tech devices for presenting a reflection. Sorry.

I read it years before Jude Law came along...
Anyway, you're wrong - it should be Jonathan Rhys Meyers (bloke from Match Point)

I read the book many years ago, but now you come to mention it he does fit the part rather well. I'm not a fan of his at all though I must say.

Hurd Hatfield, who starred in the 1945 movie version, was pretty good, too.
